Hot Pink Shimmery Buttercream Cupcakes.

  1. Bake cupcakes: For these, I used the Darn Good Chocolate Cupcakes {using a cake mix}
  2. Make frosting: For these, I used this Classic Vanilla Buttercream Frosting recipe found at Savory Sweet Life. (Color was obtained by using “Electric Pink” from the Duff Electric Color Gels.)
  3. For this particular swirl, I used the Wilton Open Star Decorating Tip 1M with a large coupler (however, a coupler isn’t a necessity).
  4. Sprinkle liberally with Wilton White Pearl Dust before frosting begins to crust. The effect will be shimmery, but not too drastic, depending on how much of the pearl dust that the frosting absorbs. (There are other methods to applying pearl dust, but I found this method to be easier to do with this particular frosting recipe. Next up on my wish list is purchasing an airbrush cake decorating system!)
  5. Add Wilton Sugar Pearls.
